ABOUT
US
The
First Christian Church of McArthur was established in 1861 at
the present location of 207 East High Street in McArthur, Ohio.
The
First Christian Church of McArthur is affiliated with the Disciples
of Christ.
We
have no creed but Christ and no book but the Bible.
We
acknowledge that we are not the only Christians; however we
affirm our faith as Christians only.
We
believe Christ is the only true and living God who died on the
Cross, then rose from the dead for the remission of the sins
of the world.
We
believe Christ is sitting at the right hand of our Heavenly
Father making intercession for all Christians as the Holy Spirit
comforts us here on earth.
We
praise the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and we are about doing
His work.
Our
church is humbled yet proud to be one of the Historical Churches
of Vinton County, Ohio.
OUR
PRACTICES INCLUDE
- Open
Communion -- The Lord's Supper is celebrated weekly in
worship. Christ's table is open to all.
- Diversity
of opinion -- Each person is free to determine individual
beliefs guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study, group
discussion, and prayer.
- Baptism
by immersion -- In baptism, the old self-centered life
is set aside, and a new life of trust in God is made possible.
We also honor other traditions of baptism.
- The
ministry of all believers -- Ministers and lay persons
lead worship, serve our community, teach, and nurture spiritual
growth.
- Freedom
of belief -- Disciples are called together around one
essential of faith: Belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
